President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Donald Trump’s top envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Kyiv on Sunday. The meeting took place at St Sophia Cathedral, situated near the site where a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s security services just two days earlier.
The visit marks the first time these representatives have traveled to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. Ahead of the discussions, Zelensky emphasized that while Ukraine is prepared to engage in talks to bring the war to an end, any resolution must include robust security guarantees and ensure a dignified peace.
The envoys arrived in Kyiv following a trip to Moscow on Saturday, where they held discussions with President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin characterized those earlier negotiations regarding the conflict as both “frank” and “constructive.”
