Rajendra Dawadi, the headteacher of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot, is being credited with saving the lives of 900 students. After receiving four urgent warnings at 09:10 local time (03:25 GMT) regarding incoming floodwaters, he initiated an immediate evacuation of the campus.
Dawadi directed the children to move toward higher ground and ordered school buses to turn back to escape the path of the disaster. The floods, which have resulted in at least 794 deaths across the region, reached the school grounds only 10 minutes after the evacuation began.
Reflecting on the narrow escape, Dawadi stated, “If we didn’t make a quick decision, if it was 10 minutes later, we all – including the students and me – wouldn’t be able to speak to you today.” The report also notes that watch: Teacher saved the lives of 900 students after phone call.
