Trump Administration Launches ‘Operation Economic Outcast’ to Isolate Iran

The United States has unveiled a major economic pressure campaign aimed at severing Iran’s global financial ties. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the initiative, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast,” on Monday, signaling an aggressive push to isolate the Iranian government by targeting all of its revenue streams, including oil exports.

Describing the strategy as an “economic D-day,” Bessent drew a parallel to the World War II Allied landings in France, framing the move as a decisive effort to push back against the current regime. He stated that the objective is to “sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.”

The administration is specifically targeting five critical sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. Bessent warned that any international entities or countries that continue to facilitate transactions within this ecosystem will face secondary penalties, emphasizing that “no one is above the reach of US sanctions.”

President Donald Trump has reportedly been engaging in direct outreach to world leaders, issuing specific requests for them to terminate their interactions with the Iranian government. Bessent cautioned that nations must now choose their alignment, noting that those who maintain ties to Tehran should expect to share in its isolation, while those who stand with the United States will benefit from the partnership.

This escalation follows six months of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. Despite military strikes that have resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials, the governing structure in Tehran remains intact.

In response to the ongoing military pressure, Iran has conducted its own regional drone and missile strikes. Furthermore, the country has asserted control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor, which has caused significant volatility in international oil and gas prices.

Previous attempts at diplomacy and various rounds of military engagement have failed to resolve the standoff. The current sanctions push represents a renewed effort to compel Iran to abandon its nuclear program and halt its maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

Bessent reiterated that the US is committed to ensuring that any entity involved in converting Iranian oil into capital for the regime will be targeted, effectively closing off avenues for economic survival as the administration seeks to force major policy concessions. The report also notes that likening it to the Allies’ forces landing on French shores to push back against Nazi Germany during World War II, bessent also called it “economic D-day”.
