The Duchess of Sussex is currently in early-stage discussions to join the cast of the Netflix series The Gentlemen, according to information obtained by. Should the deal proceed, it would represent Meghan’s first significant acting role since she stepped away from her career following her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018.
At the time of her departure from the industry, the Duchess said that she did not perceive her exit as a loss, but rather as the beginning of “a new chapter.” Her last television appearance was in the legal drama Suits, where she portrayed Rachel Zane for seven seasons until her final episode aired in 2018. More recently, she made a brief return to the screen with a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends, which features actors Lily Collins and Brie Larson.
The Gentlemen, a comedy series created by Guy Ritchie, centers on a duke who transitions into the role of a drug baron. The show, which stars Theo James and has previously featured actors such as Hugh Bonneville and Vinnie Jones, has filmed much of its production in the Cotswolds. This region is reportedly where the Sussexes intend to establish their home following their planned relocation to the UK later this month.
Beyond her potential return to acting, the Duchess is expected to focus on expanding the global reach of her US-based lifestyle and cooking brand, As Ever, while residing in Britain. This move comes as the couple prepares to settle into a private, non-royal residence outside of London, with their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, enrolled to begin at a British school in September.
The family’s decision to relocate follows a visit in July to see King Charles III at his Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire. That trip marked the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in over four years and served as the couple’s first joint visit to the UK since 2022.
The prospect of a permanent return has prompted renewed discussions regarding the couple’s security arrangements. Since stepping back as working royals in 2020 and moving to the United States, the Sussexes have funded their own private protection after their publicly funded security was downgraded. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), an independent body under the Home Office, is now tasked with reviewing these arrangements, as previous security protocols were established under the assumption that the couple would not reside in the UK on a permanent basis. Currently, there are no plans for either Prince Harry or the Duchess to resume duties as working members of the Royal Family.
