By morning, passengers were ordered to flee to nearby cover as drone activity intensified. A British economist traveling the same route described a disciplined evacuation where passengers were guided to hide in bushes near a lake after a missile strike destroyed a locomotive nearby.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the assault as a direct act of terror aimed at the thresholds of Nato and the EU. Boris Johnson, reacting to the event on social media, characterized the targeting of a stationary civilian locomotive as a senseless escalation. Amid the heightened state of alert, Lithuanian authorities briefly suspended operations at Vilnius airport following a reported drone sighting. Although Nato scrambled a fighter jet in response to the potential threat, the alarm was later identified as a flock of birds, allowing the airport to resume operations within 40 minutes.
