Pete Davidson is marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a profound new perspective on the loss of his father, New York City firefighter Scott Davidson. Now a parent himself, the comedian has found that his own journey into fatherhood has fundamentally changed how he views the tragedy that claimed his father’s life when he was just seven years old.

Davidson and his ex-girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, chose to name their eight-month-old daughter Scottie as a tribute to his father. He expressed that while the anniversary is particularly difficult this year, it is also beautiful because he can spend the day with his daughter, calling the experience healing.
Looking toward the future, Davidson plans to share stories and memories of his father with Scottie as she grows older. He currently holds onto old videos and photographs that he looks forward to showing her. To commemorate the milestone anniversary, Davidson hosted the “NYC Still Rising After 25 Years: A 9/11 Comedy Benefit” at Madison Square Garden alongside Jon Stewart on September 10.
