The jury overseeing the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy has declared they are unable to reach a unanimous verdict after entering their fourth day of deliberations in Massachusetts. The panel, consisting of nine women and three men, has spent more than 21 hours reviewing the case since deliberations began last Thursday.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, following less than an hour of morning discussions, the jury submitted a note to Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan. The judge read the message aloud in court, which stated, “After many hours of deliberation, we are unable to come to a unanimous decision.” Despite this notification, Judge Sullivan instructed the jurors to return to their private deliberations.
Observers in the courtroom noted that neither Clancy nor her family displayed visible reactions to the announcement. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington had reportedly spoken with them shortly before the note was read, suggesting they were prepared for the update. Earlier in the day, Reddington expressed confidence in the jury, describing them as “attentive, diligent, and hard-working” individuals who have followed the court’s instructions closely.
Clancy, 36, faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of her three children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months—at their Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. The defense argues that Clancy was not criminally responsible due to the effects of overmedication and postpartum psychosis. Conversely, prosecutors maintain that the defendant planned the actions and understood the nature of her conduct at the time.

If the jury does not reach a verdict, the legal outcome depends on the findings: a conviction would result in imprisonment, while a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity would require Clancy to remain at Tewksbury State Hospital under periodic review.
