President Donald Trump sharply criticized Supreme Court justices on Tuesday, describing them as shells influenced by liberal interests following a court decision that blocked his plans to alter mail-in voting ahead of the midterms.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump expressed deep frustration with the outcome. These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves, he stated.
The majority opinion halting the voting policy changes drew no recorded dissent from Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, or Amy Coney Barrett, the three justices appointed by Trump during his first term. Only Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas indicated they would have permitted the rules.
Furious over the setback, Trump criticized additional rulings that obstructed his administration’s agenda, including decisions regarding tariffs and birthright citizenship limitations. He claimed the court was inflicting trillion-dollar damages on the nation through exceptionally poor rulings that would hinder recovery.
It is a Court that will go down as having rendered some of the most destructive, hurtful, and damaging decisions in our Country’s history, Trump wrote, adding that his public criticism might cost him dearly.
The Supreme Court declined to comment on the president’s remarks. Despite his grievances, the bench previously delivered major victories to Trump, such as the 2024 ruling establishing broad presidential immunity for official actions and permitting construction to resume on his White House ballroom project.
Nevertheless, Trump voiced disappointment with conservative appointees who have ruled against his second-term policies. He praised Alito and Thomas as legends while accusing certain justices of being petrified of Democrats and lacking the courage to save the country. The report also notes that he said the court was “costing the United States Trillions of Dollars with shockingly bad rulings that are of such magnitude that it won’t be easily possible for our Country to recover or heal.”.
