The Metropolitan Police have launched a formal criminal investigation into Reform UK regarding allegations that the party violated laws concerning foreign funding. The inquiry was initiated following a documentary broadcast last week by Channel 4 News and Verbatim Investigations, which raised questions about the party’s financial practices.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the force has received a number of reports relating to donations and polling involving a political party. Officials stated that all allegations currently under investigation pertain to potential offences under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. As part of their evidence-gathering process, detectives are actively seeking to obtain the footage associated with the broadcast.
The investigation is being conducted with ongoing cooperation from the Electoral Commission and the Crown Prosecution Service. Law enforcement officials noted that they continue to liaise closely with these bodies as their inquiries progress.
