Former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed at the West Belfast Festival that she has not spoken to her estranged husband, Peter Murrell, since he was jailed for embezzling over £400,000 from the SNP. Murrell, 61, served as the party’s chief executive during his crimes, which included purchasing a motorhome and luxury goods.
Speaking to broadcaster Iain Dale at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Sturgeon stated she is still learning the details of Murrell’s actions, noting she only discovered the full extent on the day he entered his guilty plea. She has consistently denied any knowledge of his illicit activities.
In a separate podcast appearance, the former SNP leader confirmed she will not visit Murrell in prison. She admitted to feeling like a “mug” for continuing to care about him.
