The latest US LBM Coaches Poll has been released following a busy opening weekend of college football. While the schedule featured few major upsets, the rankings underwent a notable reshuffle as voters adjusted their ballots based on early-season performances.
Ohio State remains firmly at No. 1, securing 50 first-place votes as the team prepares for a high-profile matchup against Texas. The Longhorns climbed to No. 3 with one first-place vote, though they continue to trail SEC rival Georgia. The Bulldogs moved up to the No. 2 spot, earning seven first-place votes. Rounding out the top five, Notre Dame and Indiana both advanced one position; the Fighting Irish garnered four first-place votes, while the defending champion Hoosiers maintained 11.
Oregon experienced a significant drop, falling from No. 2 to No. 6 following a narrow victory over Boise State. Although the Ducks retained a single first-place vote, their overall support dipped across the board. Miami (Fla.) maintained its position at No. 7. Meanwhile, LSU surged into the top 10 at No. 8, marking a five-spot jump following their decisive prime-time win over Clemson. Texas A&M and Oklahoma complete the top 10, while Mississippi and Alabama were pushed down to No. 11 and No. 12, respectively.
Further down the poll, Michigan holds the No. 24 spot after a controversial win against Western Michigan, representing an eight-position decline from the preseason rankings. Clemson is the only team to drop out of the Top 25 entirely, replaced by two newcomers: Florida and Virginia, which are now tied for the 25th position. The report also notes that the Buckeyes received 50 first-place votes this week on the eve of their much-anticipated trip to Texas.
