Baylen Dupree-Dooley, the 23-year-old advocate and star of the TLC reality series “Baylen Out Loud,” is navigating a new health challenge. In an exclusive sneak peek of the episode airing August 4, the television personality receives a formal diagnosis of endometriosis.
During a consultation with Dr. Melissa McHale, a surgeon at the Washington Endometriosis Clinic in Washington, D.C., Dupree-Dooley and her then-fiancé, Colin Dooley, were told that her symptoms confirm the condition. Dr. McHale noted that while the diagnosis is clear, there is currently no evidence of invasive or ovarian endometriosis, which she described as a positive finding.
Dr. McHale outlined several paths forward for the reality star, ranging from medical management through birth control to suppress symptoms, to surgical excision. The doctor also addressed the potential impact on fertility, explaining that while some patients face challenges, others do not, and the only way to determine the outcome is through attempts to conceive. “It’s very much a question of weighing the pros and cons of the different approaches,” Dr. McHale stated.
Reflecting on the news, Dupree-Dooley expressed mixed emotions. In a confessional segment, she admitted that while the clinical confirmation provides answers to long-standing questions, the uncertainty surrounding the chronic condition remains daunting. “It is also scary at the same time just because there’s so many unknowns with endometriosis,” she explained.
This health update follows her 2020 diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome, a condition she has managed for most of her life and which serves as a primary focus of her show. Dupree-Dooley has consistently utilized her platform to challenge misconceptions about Tourette’s and advocate for greater awareness.
Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disorder characterized by tissue resembling the uterine lining growing outside the uterus. Dr. Lusine Aghajanova, a reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist at Stanford Health Care, explained that this tissue frequently attaches to the pelvic lining, fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder, or bowel.
According to Dr. Aghajanova, the condition is categorized into four stages based on the depth, location, and volume of lesions, as well as the presence of adhesions or scar tissue. However, she emphasized that the stage does not always correlate with the intensity of symptoms. Patients may experience significant pain during urination, bowel movements, or intercourse, alongside excessive bleeding, bloating, fatigue, and depression.
The episode of “Baylen Out Loud” featuring this diagnosis is scheduled to air Tuesday, August 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TLC, with streaming availability on HBO Max the following day.
