Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has issued a stark warning regarding the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, describing its wide-reaching economic and security consequences as an “earthquake.” Speaking Sunday at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York City, held alongside the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister emphasized that the conflict’s shock waves have moved well beyond Middle Eastern borders, forcing a global reassessment of stability.

Addressing the diplomatic community, Sheikh Mohammed, who also serves as Qatar’s foreign minister, insisted that regional security must be anchored in a framework where national sovereignty is strictly respected. He argued that long-term peace is impossible if any individual nation remains permanently exposed to insecurity, noting that current tensions necessitate a shift toward addressing root causes to build mutual confidence and avoid dangerous “cycles of escalation.”

While acknowledging that the regional conflict is impacting the area, the Prime Minister asserted that Qatar’s own economic and security foundations have successfully weathered the ongoing turbulence. To reinforce this position of resilience, he announced a significant pivot in national investment strategy, pledging over $38 billion for domestic infrastructure projects scheduled across the next five years. This capital injection is intended to signal stability to private investors despite the pervasive uncertainty surrounding shipping routes, energy supplies, and regional security.

As global leaders prepare for the UN General Assembly starting Monday, the situation in the Middle East is expected to dominate diplomatic discussions. Observers anticipate these themes of sovereignty and de-escalation will be central to upcoming talks between Gulf leaders and US President Donald Trump, scheduled for Tuesday.

Parallel to these high-level discussions, Qatari officials continue to pursue a diplomatic path to conflict resolution. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari confirmed that Doha is maintaining active mediation efforts, working to facilitate the resumption of direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington to bring an end to the hostilities. The report also notes that but acknowledged that the ongoing conflict in the region is having an impact, he said that Qatar has weathered the test to the “foundations” of the country’s economy and security. The report also notes that “During the crisis, almost every conversation began with security and de-escalation, then turn[ed] to energy supplies, shipping routes, and with our investments, plans will continue.
