A Polish national has been taken into custody in the Lower Silesia region on suspicion of orchestrating an assassination plot targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Authorities confirmed that the individual was detained following the discovery of a specific threat, which security officials are treating as a matter of the highest gravity.
The investigation began after the State Protection Service, which oversees the security of government officials, received an email detailing the potential attack. This information was immediately forwarded to the police, prompting a high-level emergency meeting of Polish security services this Sunday. Officials noted that the threat assessment indicated a significant likelihood that these actions could have been carried out. In this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out,” he said.
Jacek Dobrzynski, a representative for the Special Services Co-ordinator, confirmed the arrest of the Polish citizen to local media outlets. Prime Minister Tusk publicly expressed his gratitude to the police force for their swift and decisive action in addressing the situation.
Donald Tusk has served as the Prime Minister of Poland since 2023, following an earlier tenure in the position from 2007 to 2014. Additionally, he held the role of president of the European Council between 2014 and 2019.
