The Metropolitan Police have formally filed two new charges against Tim Westwood, the former presenter for Radio 1 and Capital Xtra. These latest allegations involve non-recent incidents that expand the legal case against the 68-year-old broadcaster, who is now facing a total of 17 charges concerning nine individual women.
Details of the latest allegations
- An allegation of indecent assault against a teenager aged 16 to 17, reported in the Hammersmith and Fulham area in 1991.
- An allegation of sexual assault involving an 18-year-old woman in Wandsworth, dating back to 2004.
These new accusations follow a broader investigation into reports of non-recent offences spanning from 1983 to 2016. Westwood, who previously entered not guilty pleas during a December appearance at Southwark Crown Court, remains subject to proceedings for 15 earlier charges. Those initial counts, filed in October 2025, include four charges of rape alongside multiple counts of sexual and indecent assault.
Prosecution and police statements
Catherine P Baccas, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London, confirmed that the service authorised these additional charges after a thorough review by the Metropolitan Police. She noted that investigators found sufficient evidence to proceed in the public interest, stressing that the defendant maintains the right to a fair trial as these active criminal proceedings continue.
Reflecting on the ongoing investigation, Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy stated: “The women who have made reports have placed their trust in us, and we remain committed to providing them with all available support.” The police have also encouraged those seeking independent assistance to contact the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line managed by Rape Crisis.
Upcoming legal proceedings
Westwood is scheduled to attend Westminster Magistrates’ Court to address the two most recent charges on a date yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the legal team and the court are preparing for the primary trial related to the initial 15 charges, which is currently set to commence at Southwark Crown Court on 25 January 2027.
