Author and former Conservative politician Jeffrey Archer has passed away at the age of 86. His publisher, HarperCollins, confirmed he died “suddenly and peacefully at home” on Monday during an interval between writing sessions.
Over a prolific five-decade career, Archer achieved global success by selling more than 300 million books, with notable works including The Clifton Chronicles and Kane and Abel. He frequently drew inspiration from his hometown of Wellington, Somerset, for his storytelling.
Beyond his literary career, Archer was a former Conservative MP. In 2001, he was imprisoned for perjury after being convicted of lying during his 1987 libel case against the Daily Star.
