Federal authorities are investigating allegations that Corey Lewandowski, a longtime associate of Donald Trump, leveraged his role at the Department of Homeland Security for financial gain. Two sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the Justice Department launched the probe following a referral from the DHS Office of Inspector General, which submitted its findings in recent weeks.
The inquiry centers on financial profit claims linked to government contracts authorized during former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s leadership. Lewandowski previously functioned as a senior adviser and de facto chief of staff under Noem until both individuals departed the department in March. No criminal charges have been filed in the ongoing matter.
Responding to the inquiry, defense attorney Adam Trigg issued a statement asserting his client’s innocence: “Mr. Lewandowski has not been contacted by the Justice Department regarding any investigation, and he denies any wrongdoing when he was proudly serving his country in a voluntary capacity.” Justice Department officials declined to provide comment, and DHS did not immediately respond to inquiries. Has reached out to DHS for comment.
Lewandowski’s ties to Donald Trump extend back to the 2016 presidential election, where he served as campaign manager during the early primaries, before taking on subsequent roles in the 2020 and 2024 presidential bids.
When questioned about the federal investigation on Thursday, Trump stated he had not yet received a briefing from Attorney General Todd Blanche. Addressing the situation, Trump noted, “I want my people to be honest, and if they’re not going to be honest, they have to be prosecuted.” He added that dishonesty damages both the nation and his administration, concluding, “If he’s honest that’s good. If he’s not honest, you have to pay a price.” The probe was first disclosed by The Wall Street Journal. According to mr. Trump, He viewed dishonesty as harming not only the country but also him personally.
